Description
Vishnu is lovingly called Perumal in Tamil. This handsome statue is one of its kind when it comes to beauty and craftsmanship. Perumal wears a tall crown. A Vaishnava mark on his forehead which covers his eyes partially and extends on his nose slightly. He smiles sweetly with his eyes are closed in a blissful trance. Makara Kundal (crocodile shaped earrings) adorn his ears.
He bears Chakra (discus) and Shankha (conch) in his two upper hands. One of the other two hands is raised in Abhaya Mudra (assurance/protection) and the other is in Katyavalambita Mudra (palm perpendicular to the ground and hand resting on thigh) Usual jewellery adorn his strong, well formed body. Statue rests on a double pedestal, one round and other square. This statue is created using the Lost-Wax Technique also known as Madhuchistavidhana.

This brass statue was created using the Madhuchishtavidhana (Lost-Wax method).
Since the wax model of the statue is destroyed during the making process, every statue made with this method is unique. No copy of such pieces can ever be made.
Such beauty is rare in South Indian statues these days.
