Description
An excellent small copper figurine of Kartikeya as Shikhivahana. This handsome copper statue is of Kartikeya as Shikhivahana. Shikhin is another name for peacock in Sanskrit and Vahana means mount. So Kartikeya who has peacock for his mount is also called Shikhivahana.
Kartikeya is seen four-armed. He bears vajra (thunderbolt) and shakti (energy) in his upper two hands. His right hand is lifted in abhaya mudra (fearlessness granting pose) and left hand extends to rest on his thigh. His favourite javelin called Vel rests on his right shoulder.
His mount peacock is perched at his feet.
Kartikeya is the younger son of Shiva and Parvati. He is the commander of the army of gods and is famed to have led the gods in their fight against Tarakasura, one of the demon kings who was destined to be killed by Kartikeya.
Kartikeya is a powerful deity worshipped ardently in South India. He is considered as the absolute god by the Kaumaras, the followers of Kumara sects of Hinduism.
