A wood carving of Goddess Lakshmi sitting in padmasana (lotus pose) from Tamil Nadu.
This is a single wood-block carving of Adi Lakshmi (one of the eight forms of Lakshmi) in South Indian style. The goddess is seen four-armed, holding lotus flowers in her two upper hands and her lower hands posed in abhaya (fearlessness granting) and varada (boon giving) poses.
The wood art is richly carved in floral designs and the figure of goddess Lakshmi is shown bedecked in rich jewellery and crown.
She is seated on a lotus pedestal.
The wood carving is polished in soft, dark-brown hue.
