Based on a popular Chola theme of Bhumi - Varaha, this statue is a marvellous work of craftsmanship, poise and grace.
Vishnu is seen with the head of a Varaha (boar) and four-armed. He holds Shankha (conch) and Chakra (discus) in his two arms and scoops the goddess Bhumi (earth) with other two, uplifting her.
Bhumi is seen hands folded in reverence to Vishnu, her protector.
The right foot of Varaha rests on the hoods of Adisesha, the celestial serpent that also serves as Vishnu’s cosmic couch.
The statue is very intricately carved depicting fine jewellery and crown. It rests on a solid pedestal.
The sculpture is polished to a golden shine but as it will age, it shall gradually change hue to a darker tone due to oxidation. Exposure to moisture may also cause it to gather that subtle green patina so common to brass and bronze antiques.
This masterpiece is a must buy for all art enthusiasts and collectors.
