Description

A very intricate wood carving of Lord Krishna in his Venugopala form, created by artists from Tamil Nadu.

Venugopala is seen standing in his charming tribhanga mudra, which is the usual pose of flute-playing Krishna. He is bedecked with jewellery and a crown. He wears a garland called Vaijayanti.

The form of Venugopala is four-armed. He holds attributes of Vishnu in his two upper hands and a flute in his lower hands. He is flanked on either side with two gopikas (cowherd girls). The figure of Krishna rests on a lotus pedestal. Beneath there are two peacocks carved in South Indian style and the carving is framed in a richly carved floral tree with two parrots shown perched on it.

The wood carving is as beautifully coloured as it is carved. Colors are subtle and well etched in the grain of the wood.

Overall a fantastic work of art to serve as a traditional decorative item.
