An Exquisite Bronze Idol of Durga as Tulja Bhavani
<span style="font-weight: 400;">This is a bronze statue depicting the goddess Durga as Tulja Bhavani. The statue represents a story from ancient times. In that era, there was a Brahmin monk named Kardam and his wife Anubhuti, who was known for her beauty and gentleness.</span> <br> <br><span style="font-weight: 400;"> When Kardam passed away, Anubhuti wanted to perform the sati ritual, but she was pregnant. So, she gave up that idea and instead went to meditate by the Mandakini river.</span> <br> <br><span style="font-weight: 400;">During her meditation, a king named Kukar saw her and was captivated by her beauty. He attempted to assault her, but she prayed to the divine mother for help. In response, the mother goddess appeared. A fierce battle ensued, during which Kukar transformed into a demon named Mahisha. The goddess defeated Mahisha and this victory is celebrated as 'Vijayadashami'. </span> <br> <br><span style="font-weight: 400;">Goddess Durga is also referred to as 'Tavarita' or Tulja in Marathi. The statue portrays various moments of this story in a beautiful way. Goddess Durga is shown with eight arms, each holding a weapon except for one hand holding the demon's hair. She also holds a sword. She wears ornaments like necklaces, earrings, armlets, and bracelets. Her left foot rests on the defeated Mahisha.</span> <br> <br><span style="font-weight: 400;">The statue stands on a bronze pedestal with intricate flower carvings. Behind the statue, there is a support with three figures, one of which is a Yeti. The goddess is depicted with a small cloth on her lower body while her upper body is uncovered, showcasing her strength and courage. This sculpture commemorates the tale of the goddess's triumph over evil in a detailed and artistic manner. Overall this bronze statue of Maa Durga as Tulja Bhavani is magnificent.</span>
