An Old Brass Idol Of Guruvayurappan Krishna

This is a lovely brass statue of four-armed Krishna, who is worshiped as the main deity at the famous Guruvayur temple in Kerala, South India. This statue depicts Lord Krishna revealing him as an incarnation of Vishnu, with four arms. Guruvayur is often referred to as the Dwarka of the South because of this temple dedicated to Sri Krishna, who is affectionately known as Guruvayurappan, meaning “Father at Guruvayur.”

In this depiction, Krishna is portrayed as a chubby and adorable baby boy. Despite having four arms, the statue maintains the innocence and cuteness expected of a child. Lord Krishna holds the Sudarshan Chakra (discus) and Panchajanya (conch) in his upper two arms, while the Kaumodaki (mace) and a lotus are held in his lower two arms. The lotus stem extends from between his fingers to his toe. Adorned with peacock feathers on his crown and a Kaustubha gem on his chest, Krishna is adorned with beautiful jewels as customary. The statue is placed on a round lotus pedestal, adding to its charm and significance. This exquisite old statue is truly a masterpiece, crafted in Kerala style of brass casting. This is an old statue, probably possessed by a family of Kerala and is preserved in excellent condition.
