Colored Wooden Statue of Shiva Nataraja

Hand-carved wooden statue of Shiva Nataraja. This is quite a remarkable wood carving of Nataraja Shiva, strikingly coloured in traditional South Indian style. <br> <br>Shiva in the form of Nataraja is seen in his famed pose with one leg on <em>Apasmara</em> (personification of ignorance) and other raised. He is four-armed holding <em>damaru</em> (representing space) and <em>agni</em> (fire of universal destruction) in his upper two hands. His lower hands are posed as one resting on another, with the raised hand in <em>abhayahasta mudra</em>. <br> <br>Resembling much like the statues seen on the exterior of South Indian temples, this wood art is an impressive work of an accomplished wood artist from Tamil Nadu.
