Description
Hand-carved wooden statue of Shiva Nataraja. This is quite a remarkable wood carving of Nataraja Shiva, strikingly coloured in traditional South Indian style.
Shiva in the form of Nataraja is seen in his famed pose with one leg on Apasmara (personification of ignorance) and other raised. He is four-armed holding damaru (representing space) and agni (fire of universal destruction) in his upper two hands. His lower hands are posed as one resting on another, with the raised hand in abhayahasta mudra.
Resembling much like the statues seen on the exterior of South Indian temples, this wood art is an impressive work of an accomplished wood artist from Tamil Nadu.
