Devi Saraswati Wood Carved Statue

Neatly carved wooden statue of Devi Saraswati, colored in traditional colors. This is a beautiful hand carved wooden statue of Goddess Saraswati. It is intricately carved and strikingly coloured. Such colourful statues are a hallmark of South Indian art as also visible on the massive temples in Tamil Nadu the exteriors of which are laden with innumerable, brightly coloured sculptures. <br> <br>Saraswati is the Goddess of wisdom, music, art and the presiding deity of Speech. She herself is speech personified and is therefore also called <em>Vani</em>. She is the consort of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation and assists him in creating the worlds with their beings by inspiring Brahma. She resides in Vedic mantras. The seven notes of Indian classical music are said to have emanated from the strings of her lute. <br> <br>Saraswati is worshipped by students and artists alike. In India her icons is installed in educational institutions, dance and art schools and libraries. <br> <br>As seen in this statue, she is four-armed, seated on a lotus pedestal. She holds a rosary in her upper right hand which represents unbroken concentration. Her upper left hand bears the Vedas. He is seen playing a lute with her lower hands. She is seated in <em>sukhasana</em> (relaxed pose).
