Small wood carving of devi Lakshmi, ideal as wall art. This is a neat wood carving of Goddess Lakshmi. Hand carved in walnut wood by South Indian artisans, this decorative carving could enhance the look of any wall or furniture surface. Currently the carved wooden panel is raw but it can be either polished or coloured as needed without any extra charge. <br> <br>Goddess Lakshmi is the deity that bestows all types of wealth and she is the consort of Vishnu, the supreme being. While she has many forms but in this wood carving she is seen in the form of <em>Adi Lakshmi</em>, which means the original Lakshmi from which all her other forms emanate. She is seen holding lotuses in two of her upper hands and her lower tow hands are poised in <em>abhaya</em> and <em>varada mudra</em> (fearless and boon granting poses). <br> <br>She sits on a lotus pedestal. While it is customary in South Indian art to depict deities seated or standing on a lotus pedestal, it is more pertinent in the case of Lakshmi since she is closely related to lotus. She has an epithet <em>Padma</em>, which means the one who resides in lotus. Lotus is associated with beauty, purity, usefulness, auspiciousness and resilience. Goddess Lakshmi is seen bedecked with rich jewellery and crown.
