Krishna - Ravi Varma Art Print

Raja Ravi Varma was a renowned Indian painter and artist from the state of Travancore (currently in southern Kerala and constituting some parts of Tamil Nadu). This is an old print of one of the paintings by <a href="https://www.cottage9.com/blog/raja-ravi-varma-the-founder-of-contemporary-indian-art/">Raja Ravi Varma</a>. He was a renowned Indian painter and artist from the state of Travancore (currently in southern Kerala and constituting some parts of Tamil Nadu). He was known for creating paintings in a style that was a fusion of Indian tradition and European art techniques. <br> <br>His works were invariably based on themes from Indian literature and mythology. The work depicts an episode in the Mahabharata, when Krishna visits Kauravas before the war as a peace envoy from the Pandavas side, as one last ditch effort to avert war. <br> <br>His efforts are not only frustrated by Duryodhana but he proposes to also capture him. Krishna is shown seated with a nonchalant smile while he restrains Satyaki from attacking Duryodhana, who is ordering his man to take Krishna captive. The elders in the assembly who do not approve of Duryodhana's obstinacy are aghast at his attempt to capture Krishna, the highest lord.
