Miniature Seated Garuda Copper Idol

Beautifully crafted miniature copper idol of Garuda. This old copper statue is a very fine specimen of a lost-wax-cast method of idol creation in ancient India. It requires very good craftsmanship to achieve such details in this small a size. This idol of Garuda depicts him in kneeling pose with his wings spread and hands ready as foot-rests for his master Lord Vishnu, who he is ready to carry.

A statue of Vishnu was probably a part of this piece since there is a pedestal fixed at the back of this Garuda statue. Garuda occupies an important position in the context of Hindu Scriptures, particularly Vaishnava scriptures like Bhagwad Purana. He is Lord Vishnu ’s steed.
