Shiva - Ardhanarishvara Batik Painting

Batik technique is indigenous to India as to Indonesia or Malaysia or Japan. Batik means &nbsp;‘wax writing'.<a href="https://www.cottage9.com/art-technique/art-of-batik-painting/"> Batik technique</a> is indigenous to India as to Indonesia or Malaysia or Japan. But Indians have known the technique of Batik art for about 2000 years . Batik makes use of rice starch and wax resists for printing. <br> <br>This technique became unpopular over time because of tedious procedures of waxing and then de-waxing. It was however kept alive as a hobby by aristocratic ladies and then later revived in the 20th century. This Batik is a painting of Shiva in his Ardhanarishwara form. Here Devi occupies half of Shiva's body.
