Shiva - Parvati with Ganesha and Skanda Masterpiece Bronze Sculpture

An exceptional bronze sculpture of Shiva with Parvati, Ganesha, Skanda and Narada by master sculptor of Tamil Nadu. This is an extraordinary bronze sculpture of Shiva and Parvati with their children Ganesha and Skanda. They stand under a tree with sage Narada by their side.

South Indian sculptors are expert in creating multi-subject or event-based sculptures. This masterpiece is one like those. Shiva is seen in the center with all the traditional iconography associated with him. He wears a jatamakuta (hair worn like a crown) that is embedded with jewelry. He wears a Datura flower in his hair.

His wears a female earring in his left ear and right one is without any, or it could also be adorned with a male earring. He holds Parashu (axe) and Mriga (deer) in right and left upper-hands respectively. His lower right hand is gestured in Abhaya Mudra (assurance or granting fearlessness) and left hand is curled to hold a detachable trishula (trident) included with this sculpture.

Parvati stands at Shiva ’s left. She is ornately dressed up and holds the child Skanda (her son, also known as Kartikeya) in her right arm. Child Ganesha is seen holding the index finger of her left hand. She bears a bashful, amused smile. To the right of Shiva is seen sage Narada, the famous devotee of Lord Vishnu. He carries a veena (lute) hung around him that he plays in praise of Lord Vishnu primarily but also of other deities including Lord Shiva.

Sage Narada is seen playing veena, immersed in singing melodies seeing the great Shiva, the epitome of detachment and the one who once burned Kama (god of conjugal love) to ashes, turned so much a family man to be enjoying marital life with Parvati, mother of the worlds.

There is a beautifully carved tree in the background of the sculpture. It is shown teaming with life housing creatures such as lizards, squirrels and snakes. This masterpiece of a sculpture rests on a huge lotus base.
