South Indian Lakshmi Wood Carving

Intricate South Indian wood carving of devi Lakshmi. A wood carving of Goddess Lakshmi sitting in <em>padmasana</em> (lotus pose) from Tamil Nadu. <br> <br>This is a single wood-block carving of <em>Adi Lakshmi</em> (one of the eight forms of Lakshmi) in South Indian style. The goddess is seen four-armed, holding lotus flowers in her two upper hands and her lower hands posed in <em>abhaya</em> (fearlessness granting) and <em>varada</em> (boon giving) poses. <br> <br>The wood art is richly carved in floral designs and the figure of goddess Lakshmi is shown bedecked in rich jewellery and crown. She is seated on a lotus pedestal. The wood carving is polished in soft, dark-brown hue.
