Intricately carved wall art in walnut wood of Sri Brahma sitting on lotus pedestal. This is an excellent wood carving of Hindu god Brahma. It is intricately carved in walnut wood and complete in iconography of Brahma. In Hindu theology Brahma is conceived of as the one who manifests the world and its beings. <br> <br>The wood carving depicts Brahma beautifully. He is four faced (only three faces are visible in the carving and the fourth one is assumed to be behind). Brahma ever recites the four Vedas with his four mouths. His four faces are also the seers of the four quarters of directions of the universe. <br> <br>Brahma holds a <em>japamala</em> (rosary) in his right hand, which represents the never ending Time. In the left hand he holds a <em>ghritachi</em> (sacrificial ladle) which represents the priesthood of Brahma since he performed the first ancient sacrifice out of which the universe emerged. <br> <br>His lower right hand is raised in <em>abhaya mudra</em> (granting fearlessness) and he holds <em>Veda</em> (knowledge) in his left. <br>Brahma is seated on the lotus that emerged from the navel of Vishnu, the supreme being. This exquisite carving in South Indian style is a great handicraft ideal for gift or as a decorative artwork. It could be hung on wall or placed in small corners in shelves or otherwise.
