Yazhi (Yali) are mythical lions mentioned in Hindu scriptures, revered figures in India. South Indian temples often feature statues and carvings of Yali on pillars, with their faces adorning statues, etc.
This wooden carving is unique because it depicts the mythical lions sitting. Most of the time, they are shown standing on two feet holding a mythical creature resembling an elephant. This carving stands out with its distinctive portrayal.
