Description
Fantastic wood carved statue of Nandi vahana of Shiva for use in temple processions. This fantastic wood-carved Nandi is a great example of wood carving of South India. These large wood statues are generally of vahanas (mounts) of deities or figures of dwarapalas (door keepers) to adorn the annual public procession of the deities on their chariots. These wood-carved statues are brightly coloured and attractive.
This is one such statue of Nandi, the bull-mount of Hindu god Shiva. Notice the pedestal on the wooden Nandi meant for the procession idol of Shiva. Bull is known as Rishabh in Sanskrit. This idol is therefore called Rishabh Vahana – The Bull Mount.
If you have a home temple then this statue could serve as a perfect pedestal for the Shiva deity or it could be placed outdoors as an auspicious piece of art in home or office. Would also look great in a hotel lobby.
