Description
This stone statue of Garuda was carved by a master artisan. Here Garuda is shown kneeling with his hands joined in supplication. His wings are upraised indicating that he is ready when Vishnu is.
Such statues of Garuda are almost invariably seen in Vishnu temples either outside the Garbha Gruha (sanctum sanctorum) facing Vishnu or on top of Garuda Stambha (a pillar outside a Vishnu temple that serves as Garuda’s seat)
Special Comments
The statue is coloured white but its natural colour is light red, the natural colour of the stone it is carved in.
