This is an ornately carved wood sculpture of Hindu god Ganesha. The wood carving is washed in subtle colours that lend it an extra appeal. This is Carnatic style wood carving created by skilled, traditional artists of South India.
Ganesha is seen seated on a lotus pedestal holding ankusha (goad) and pasha (noose) in his upper right and left hands respectively. In his lower right hand he holds his broken tusk and modaka (a type of sweet) in his left. Click here to know more about iconography of Ganesha.
