Description
Rare copper figurine of Vishnu in the form of Hayagreeva with Lakshmi. This is a fantastic copper figurine of Lakshmi-Hayagreeva. A copy of an antique, traditional South Indian masterpiece. Vishnu assumed the form of Hayagreeva (Haya: horse, Greeva: neck) to retrieve the Vedas from demons and hand them back to Brahma.
This form of Vishnu bestows great intellect on the worshipper. Vishnu as Hayagreeva is the main deity among the Dwaitins, the followers of the Dwaita system of philosophy propounded by the vedantic scholer Madhwacharya. Hayagreeva is seen sitting with Lakshmi (Vishnu’s consort) on his left lap. He bears Shankha (conch) and Chakra (discus) in this upper hands. An awesome piece.
